HOW RENTAL PURCHASE/BUY-BACK WORKS

Basic Info

• You choose from our fleet of over 60 cars which are all sold in various group categories. Prices are always under the official market value as determined by the motorcar industry of South Africa every year.
• You buy a clean, reliable car for your duration of your stay in South or Southern Africa, or purchase a fully equipped buyback guaranteed 4x4 to conquer some of Africa’s rough terrain.
• The buy back price is predetermined when you buy the car, and is dependant on the duration of use and year model of the car. The cost of the “rental buying period” is worked out as the difference between the sale and purchase price commonly known a the “write-down” Knowing from the outset how much you will receive for the vehicle when Drive Africa buys it back means there will be no unpleasant surprises at the end of your trip. Adherence to the Terms and conditions of the contract determine the final buyback amount that is paid back.
• The Buyback scheme should not be compared to buying a car from a normal car dealer it should be seen as a cost effective alternative to long term car hire and should be compared to what the car hire industry has to offer in order to make an informed choice to go the Rental purchase route rather than renting a car.
• After the buyer has paid for and  taken possession of his/her car he/she is given 48 hours to establish any defects that might be wrong with his purchased vehicle and a 1 Month or 3000 km (whichever comes first) Guarantee period covers defects which include engine, gear box, wheels etc. 

Buying

• Payment is made either by credit card, international bank transfer, electronic transfer, cash or debit card.
• The buyer approves the vehicle and has signed that he is aware and understands all contract conditions pertaining to the buy back deal for which he pays in full and in advance and assumes full responsibility for all expenses associated with owning his own vehicle.
• Drive Africa has the car roadworthied (government certification that car is fit to drive on the road). Drive Africa attends to all license issues and has car licensed in buyers name. Owner and title holder papers are processed for signature by client.
• The Buyer assumes full responsibility for the vehicle, including all running expenses, servicing at regular predetermined intervals during the ownership of the vehicle and the agreement that goes with it. Service and maintenance may be done at any registered garage country wide or if vehicle is in and around Cape Town it can be serviced at Drive Africa’s own workshop.

What could happen?

• You want a car immediately when visiting Drive Africa’s office and that model car you want is not ready for buyer or will only be available a few weeks later, but he/she needs immediate transport, can therefore enter into a buy-back contract on the spot for the vehicle requested. A contract can be signed with all its conditions, paid in full and a substitute licensed car ( of any other group available) fully insured will be supplied (if available) until the vehicle that has been bought becomes available as per the contract .
• If the buyer/Client wants to purchase the vehicle outright at any time during the rental purchase agreement he will have to negotiate this with Drive Africa and pay the difference of what was paid for vehicle and what the vehicle was insured for as well as a “rental portion” for the period he/she was using the car.

Buyback / repurchase

• Drive Africa buys back the vehicle from the Buyer in the same state as it was sold to him/her on a specific date, or subject to 14 days notice to extend or cut the rental purchase period. Costs will be calculated according to our write-down table.
• To determine the final buyback price for the vehicle bought back the owner is required to have the vehicle checked mechanically and for damages at Drive Africa’s premises 3 to 4 days before bringing the vehicle back for good.
• Buy-back returns for cars in other cities or surrounding countries will only be checked on the outside for body damage when driver collects car, the final mechanical check will be done in Cape Town at our premises when the car is returned. After this check the final buyback price will be determined.
