Car and 4x4 Vehicle Insurance

These insurance conditions are only applicable to our own buyback cars in the fleet and not to any rentals that we offer.

Fully comprehensive insurance

At Drive Africa, all our vehicles are comprehensively insured for your total peace of mind.

In South Africa the cost of Third Party liability is included in the price of fuel.
Drive Africa takes care of all your insurance formalities once we have received a mailed photocopy (not fax), or better yet scanned emailed copy, of the passport and drivers license (in English).

The comprehensive insurance includes claims for accident, fire, theft and own damage.

The excesses are listed below.

Cars bought to travel throughout South Africa are insured for South Africa only. Cars traveling in and outside South Africa are automatically also covered for traveling in Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Swaziland. Cars traveling into Zambia can be insured if requested and require special authorization. Extra insurance cost apply for Malawi and Tanzania. For Kenya you will need a Carnet de Passage. Some of these countries require an additional country-specific insurance (ask us for specific country's entries), which you can get at the border of the respective countries.

Excesses for every vehicle except 4x4s

• Accident: 10% of claim or vehicle market value (min. R3,000)
• Theft / Hi-Jacking: 15% of claim or vehicle market value (min. R4,000)
• Under age of 25 and driver license older than 2 years, add 5% of claim (min. R1,750)
• Under age of 25 and driver license less than 2 years, add 10% of claim (min. R3,500)
• From a age of 25 and driver license less than 2 years, add 5% of claim (min. R1,750)
• Windscreen: 20% of claim (min. R 500)
• Accessories: 10% of claim (min. R1.000)
• Theft of radio: R1,350

Excesses for 4x4s

• Accident / Theft / Hi-Jacking: 10% of claim or vehicle market value (min. R 7.000)
• Under age of 25, add R 2.000
• driver license less than 2 years, add R 1.000
• Accessories: 20% of market value (min. R750-)
• Windscreen: 20% of claim (min R 500)
• Theft of radio: R 1.000
